Duo arrested for drug distribution in Manistique

MANISTIQUE, MI--   A joint investigation by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team and Manistique Public Safety has resulted in the arrest of two people on felony drug charges.

Manistique officers initiated the investigation two months ago when they obtained information that heroin and crystal meth was being distributed in the area. UPSET detectives received the same information from another source. Over the past week the agencies worked together to investigate the suspects in the case.

On Tuesday detectives observed one suspect leave a known drug house. Troopers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver, a 43-year-old Manistique man, was found to be in possession of heroin, crystal meth, prescription pills, needles, and a large amount of cash.

A search warrant was executed at the man’s house. Officers seized more drugs and cash. A 41-year-old Manistique woman was arrested at the house for delivery of crystal meth and Suboxone. Three children in the residence were turned over to family members.

In total, detectives seized about 15 grams of crystal meth, 15 grams of heroin, various prescription pills and $4,000 in cash. The estimated street value of the drugs is believed to be more than $10,000.

Additional arrests and charges are expected.

The two suspects remain lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail. Their names are being withheld, pending arraignment.
