Eastern UP teen dies in single-vehicle crash

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, MI--   A Pickford teen has been killed in a rollover crash in Chippewa County.

Sheriff’s officials say it happened Saturday around 3:50 a.m. on M-48 near Hanna Road. A vehicle driven by Joshua Goodell, 18, drifted off the side of the roadway and hit a culvert, which launched it into the air for 132 feet. Goodell was found trapped inside.

Goodell was taken to the hospital, where he passed away early Monday morning.

Officials say speed appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Pickford Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
