Emergency officials urge Marquette county residents to sign up for Smart911

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette County Emergency Management Office and Marquette County Central Dispatch are encouraging Marquette County residents to sign up for Smart911.

The system allows people to complete a family safety profile that’s used if and when they call 911.

Central Dispatch Manager Gary Johnson says, “Residents can also opt in the system to receive alerts regarding severe weather.” The service is free.

Marquette County Emergency Management Coordinator Theresa Schwalbach says, “This alerting system will be used to alert residents of issues during the upcoming storm we are expecting to get—i.e. when and where shelters will be located if we experience long-term power outages, etc.”

The website to sign up for Smart911 and to opt in to receiving alerts is www.smart911.com, or download the Smart911 app from your app store.
