Failure to yield causes accident in Negaunee

NEGAUNEE, MI--   Several people were injured in a three-vehicle crash in Negaunee Monday. 

City Police say the accident happened around 7:35 a.m. at the intersection of US-41 and Baldwin Avenue.  A Chevy Camaro driven by John Kantola, 48, of Champion was eastbound when it was struck by a westbound van driven by Thomas Lee, 58, of Ishpeming.  He was trying to turn south onto Baldwin.  Lee’s van then struck a Ford Explorer driven by Johanna Smith, 29, of Ishpeming that was stopped at the intersection.

Lee and his passenger were taken to Marquette General Hospital, while Kantola and his passenger were transported to Bell Hospital for treatment of their injuries. 

Lee was cited for failure to yield the right of way.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
