Fallen officers to be honored in Munising this week

MUNISING, MI--   The 2019 Upper Peninsula Peace Officers Memorial will be held in Munising on Wednesday. 

The Michigan State Police Negaunee Post, Alger County Sheriff’s Department, and Munising City Police Department are hosting the event, which will honor the memory of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. The ceremony includes recognition of fallen officers in the Upper Peninsula, Wisconsin bordering agencies, Ontario bordering agencies, and Upper Peninsula natives.

The memorial will feature a law enforcement processional, the roll call of fallen officers, the laying of the wreath, a performance of taps, a rifle salute, and a keynote speech by retired Ionia County Sheriff Terrence Jungel.

The Peace Officers Memorial takes place Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Munising High School.

The public is invited to attend.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
