Farrey scheduled for fall trial in Texas

EL PASO, TX--   A Texas man arrested in Escanaba heads to trial in October in connection with his five-month-old son’s death.

Police apprehended Army specialist Jeffrey Farrey, 22, of El Paso at a hotel November 17 for being AWOL from Fort Bliss.  He was with his wife Jenna and 18-month-old son, Blake, but their younger son, five-month-old Jackson, was not with them.

On November 20 the body of an infant was found in the New Mexico desert.  Officials haven’t confirmed the identity, but it is believed to be Jackson Farrey.

According to court documents Jeffrey Farrey said the baby had choked to death and Jenna Farrey buried him weeks before he was found.

Jeffrey Farrey was extradited to Texas and charged with injury to a child by omission.  Trial is scheduled for October 3 in El Paso County.

He remains jailed in lieu of a $1.5 million bond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
