Fatal crash in Duncan Township

DUNCAN TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Baraga woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Houghton County Friday.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post say it happened around 1:45 p.m. on M-28, approximately two miles west of Sidnaw. A Honda Accord driven by Roberta Vizina, 72, of Baraga was westbound when it rear-ended a Toyota Highlander driven by Karen Moller, 59, of Eveleth, Minnesota. Moller was stopped because of road construction. Her vehicle then rear-ended a tractor-trailer driven by Garrett Ayotte, 49, of downstate Bad Axe.

Vizina was taken to Baraga County Memorial Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The other drivers were not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
