Fatal crash in Marquette County

ELY TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Marquette man was killed in a traffic accident Sunday in Ely Township.

State Police say it happened around 10:45 a.m. on US-41 in the passing lanes of the Evergreen Stretch.  Matthew Croschere, 26, was westbound in a Toyota Corolla when he tried to pass a semi tractor-trailer headed in the same direction.  Croschere lost control of the car on the snow-covered road, crossed the center line, and hit an oncoming Chevy Suburban driven by Gerald Honeyager, 62, of Dousman, Wisconsin.

Croschere suffered fatal injuries in the crash.  Honeyager and his passenger, Donna Honeyager, 59, were taken to UP Health System Marquette with serious injuries.

Troopers say everyone involved was wearing a seat belt, and alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the accident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
