Fatal snowmobile accident in Franklin Township

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Houghton man has been killed in a crash between a snowmobile and a passenger vehicle. 

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post say it happened Thursday around 4:30 p.m. in Franklin Township. Timothy Young, 53, of Houghton was southbound on Trail #3 when he failed to yield while crossing Lake Annie Road. Young was hit by a Subaru driven by Stephen Wright, 21, of Atlantic Mine.

Lifesaving efforts were performed by responders, but Young succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wright was not injured.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the accident, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
