MARQUETTE, MI-- WNMU Public Broadcasting is taking a direct hit as a result of sequestration.
At a forum Tuesday, university officials said $36,999 in federal funding is being cut to Public TV 13, while Public Radio 90 will see a $7,391 reduction, for a total of $44,390 in cuts.
Vice President for Finance and Administration Gavin Leach outlined other effects of sequestration at NMU, including a $40,000 cut this fall to Student Support Services, Upward Bound math and science programs, and the McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program.
The sequester will also eliminate subsidized loans for graduate students and raise loan origination fees and rates. Leach noted it will suspend the Federal Tuition Assistance Program—or aid for military students—to the tune of $200,000. He said a National Guard grant will cover a portion of that loss.
