Fire destroys Escanaba garage

ESCANABA, MI--   Fire has damaged property in Escanaba.

Public Safety officers were called Saturday around 2:30 p.m. to 1618 Stephenson Avenue and found smoke and flames coming from a garage near the house.

The garage, a metal carport connecting the house and garage, and their contents were a total loss.  Also damaged were a storage shed, two ice shacks, the back entryway of the house, and the south side of the neighboring house.

Officers say high winds spread the fire quickly.  Neither the residents nor the firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
