Fire destroys Ishpeming house being used to grow pot

ISHPEMING, MI--   An Ishpeming house being used to grow medical marijuana burned down Wednesday.

WLUC-TV says firefighters were called around 2:30 p.m. to the 400 block of West Johnson Street. They found heavy smoke coming from the structure and flames on the roof. Officials say power lines connected to the house burned off, leaving live lines on the ground.

Firefighters stayed at the scene for about three hours.

Ishpeming Fire Chief Ed Anderson says the building was being used for a medical marijuana grow operation. He says the cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature.

The house is a total loss. No injuries were reported.
