Fire fatality in Delta County

WELLS TOWNSHIP, MI--   Fire has killed one person at a home in Wells Township. 

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:35 Thursday night to a two-story residence on L.5 Lane and found it fully engulfed.

Firefighters from the Escanaba Public Safety Department were called to the scene and immediately requested mutual aid from the Escanaba Township Fire Department.

A search of the scene was conducted after the fire was brought under control. Fire officials found the remains of one person in the debris. The deceased was removed from the scene and taken to the St. Francis Hospital morgue. No information as to the identity of the individual will be released until a more positive identification can be confirmed.

Responding departments were on the scene for about four hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
