Food drive a huge success

ESCANABA, MI--   The Escanaba Department of Public Safety is extremely pleased with the results of it’s first-ever food drive held Wednesday.

Elmer’s Country Market hosted the drive from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Detective-Sergeant Anthony LaPlant says in that time residents donated 1,700 pounds of non-perishable food and hygiene products.

He says the items were equitably distributed to the Salvation Army of Escanaba and St. Vincent de Paul of Escanaba and Gladstone.

Green Bay Packer Don Barclay assisted with the drive, signing autographs in exchange for a donated item.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
