Food for Fines now in effect at PWPL

MARQUETTE, MI--   Peter White Public Library is collecting food because of overdue books.

The “Food for Fines” program kicked off Monday. Library staff are collecting canned goods and other non-perishable items as part of the TV6 Canathon. One dollar of fines will be forgiven for each donated food item. Those whose books are returned on time can get a free film rental per donation.

Items can be donated at the check-out desk on the main floor during library hours.

Peter White has been a TV 6 Canathon drop-off location since the start of the program in 1982. The Food for Fines program, in its eighth year at the library, runs until Wednesday, December 4.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
