Food pantry rolls into Delta County

ESCANABA, MI--   A mobile food pantry is making a stop in Escanaba.

The Department of Public Safety is teaming up with the Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank in sponsoring the mobile pantry Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Volunteers will hand out about 10,000 pounds of food, including—but not limited to—produce, fruit, milk, and yogurt.  Officials say there should be enough food to feed approximately 200 families.

Residents do not have to show proof of need to get food from the pantry.  Everyone who experiences food insecurity is welcome to receive items.  Any food that isn’t handed out will be donated to Delta County food pantries.

Public Safety officers say around 5,500 people in the county don’t have consistent access to healthy food, and because need is high and resources are scarce, addressing hunger in Delta County is a major priority.

The Community Foundation for Delta County, Bill Marmalick Premier Real Estate, Crawford Funeral Homes, and JD Machine Tech are assisting in the effort.
