Former NMU trustee Gil Ziegler dies

CANTON, GA--   A great friend to Northern Michigan University has died.

Trustee emeritus and alumnus Gil Ziegler passed away July 29 at the age of 79.

Ziegler earned a degree in mathematics at Northern in 1960. Two governors appointed him to the NMU Board of Trustees for two separate terms: 1993 to 2001 and 2007 to 2014. Ziegler was elected and served as vice chair and chair during his tenure.

Raised in St. Ignace, Ziegler was given the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1983. He was a member of the President’s Club, the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association, the Board of the Development Club, and the Golden Wildcat Club.

Ziegler died in Canton, Georgia surrounded by his family.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
