Former township treasurer charged in Gogebic County

BESSEMER, MI--   The former treasurer for Ironwood Township has been arrested on forgery and embezzlement charges. 

WLUC-TV reports Jill Olson-DeRosso, 47, served as treasurer from 1998 to November of last year. Following a lengthy investigation officials discovered Olson-DeRosso had issued checks to herself and taken cash from the tax fund in the amount of $115,470.

The Gogebic County Prosecutor’s Office authorized five counts of forgery, one count of embezzlement by a public official, refusing to turn over records to her successor, removal and destruction of public records, and using public monies for personal use.

Bond has been set at $100,000 cash.

Future court dates have not yet been set.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
