Fuel spills on US-2 in Bates Township

BATES TOWNSHIP, MI--   Officials rushed to clean up diesel from US-2 in Iron County after a tractor leaked fuel on the highway Thursday.

Troopers from the Iron Mountain Post responded around 1:10 p.m. near Larson Park in Bates Township. They say a tractor/truck with a full 81-gallon tank of diesel started to leak on the eastbound lane and shoulder of the highway.

The truck is owned by Hebert Construction out of Iron River. It was driven by a 58-year-old Iron River man.

Crews responded to the scene to contain the fuel and clean up the roadway.

The driver of the truck was cited for spilled load on the highway.

The Iron River Police Department and West Iron County Fire Department assisted at the scene.
