Gladstone officials begin process of removing city manager

Daily Press

GLADSTONE, MI--   The Gladstone City Commission is removing City Manager Darcy Long from his position.

The Escanaba Daily Press says at a special Tuesday meeting Mayor Joe Thompson made a motion to provide in writing notice of removal from office “for misfeasance, malfeasance and nofeasance to Manager Long.”

The terms are types of failure to discharge public obligations.

Long has been suspended until a public hearing to address the issue is held. The commission scheduled the hearing for Monday at 5 p.m. in front of the regular city commission meeting. Thompson says a decision on Long’s termination will be discussed at the hearing.

Gladstone Public Safety Director Ron Robinson has been named interim city manager until a more permanent interim manager can be found.

No specific reasons were given for removing Long.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
