Gogebic County man dies from COVID-19

GOGEBIC COUNTY, MI--   The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department says a person in the region has died from the coronavirus.

The individual was an elderly Gogebic County man with underlying health issues. It was the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the area. The health department continues to investigate the case, and is asking residents to stay home according to Governor Whitmer’s executive order.

WUPHD Health Officer Cathryn Beer says, “We need to work together to protect each other, support each other, and slow the spread of this disease.”

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
