Golf course doesn't want hospital

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette Golf and Country Club is saying “no” to a new Duke LifePoint hospital.

The board and its members have voted to halt all negotiations with Duke, which was considering golf course land for its new Marquette General Hospital complex.

The board says the golf course is its primary concern, and it wants to keep the Heritage Course the way it is.

Two other possible hospital sites remain on the table for Duke.  They include Marquette Township behind the Westwood Mall and the old Roundhouse property off of Baraga Avenue.
