Governor unveils broadband plan in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI--   Governor Rick Snyder was in Escanaba Wednesday to announce a new initiative to bring more broadband to underserved areas of the state.

Snyder and technology and business leaders unveiled the plan at Escanaba High School. It identifies three main areas of improvement. They include access to unserved areas, increase broadband adoption, and advance Michigan’s broadband ecosystem.

Recommendations include a call for greater investment in broadband to improve community and economic development; promoting and building awareness for low-cost broadband subscription programs; improving the workforce pool for the telecommunications industry; and creating a permanent broadband commission to advise future governors and the legislature.
