Group arrested in Marquette for trespassing on state property

MARQUETTE, MI--   Eight people have been arrested for trespassing on Governor Rick Snyder’s Northern Michigan Office in Marquette.

At 3 p.m. Wednesday, ten individuals entered the office and asked to speak to the Governor’s representative.  They met with the Director of the Northern Michigan Office, who—after answering their questions—informed the group the office closed at 5 p.m.

At 5:07 p.m. the group was asked to leave twice.  When they didn’t comply they were told by Michigan State Police that they’d be arrested if they stayed.  Two people left, and the remaining eight were taken into custody for trespassing on state property.

Those who were arrested were issued appearance citations and released on personal recognizance bonds.  All are scheduled to appear in Marquette District Court on Monday.

Troopers say the protestors were cooperative with office staff and police, and there were no issues throughout the incident.
