Gunman barricades himself inside Escanaba apartment

ESCANABA, MI--   A standoff between police and a barricaded gunman in Escanaba ended peacefully Wednesday morning.

Tuesday around 10:50 p.m. Public Safety officers were investigating a report of property damage on the 1500 block of Sheridan Road when a 54-year-old man from Escanaba pointed a handgun at them.  The suspect retreated into his apartment and barricaded himself inside.

Officers established a perimeter, evacuated other tenants within the building, and closed Sheridan Road to traffic.

The Michigan State Police Emergency Response Team was called in for assistance. Once on scene, the team established communication with the suspect. He was arrested without incident around 5:40 Wednesday morning.

Officials say the man faces felonious assault and felony firearms charges.

Assisting in the incident were Michigan State Police from the Gladstone Post, the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, and Delta County Central Dispatch.
