Hannahville tribal member drowns in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI--   The Escanaba Department of Public Safety is investigating a drowning in the Escanaba Harbor.

Thursday around 1:30 p.m. Delta County Central Dispatch received a call about a body floating in the water near Water Plant Road. Officers found a man floating face down just east of the Harbor Master building.

Police have identified the man as Anthony McCullough, 55, of the Hannahville Indian Community. McCullough was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers say McCullough appears to have drowned by accident, but investigation into his whereabouts prior to his death continues. Foul play is not suspected.

 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
