Health officials ask residents to avoid gatherings with other households

MARQUETTE, MI--   The LMAS and Chippewa County health departments are asking residents to limit upcoming gatherings to only people in their household.

Officials say with COVID rates rising rapidly and until a vaccine is available, people need to stay as safe as possible. They say gatherings with a few friends or family from more than one household have resulted in multiple cases of COVID-19 and some people are very ill and in hospitals.

Although they understand the importance of coming together for traditions like deer camp, Thanksgiving and Christmas, health officials say residents need to find other ways to celebrate without risking getting or spreading the coronavirus.

The LMAS Health Department has seen a 30-percent increase in COVID cases over the last 12 days, and the Chippewa County Health Department has seen a 100-percent increase over the same time period.
