Heikki Lunta coming back to Negaunee

NEGAUNEE, MI--The City of Negaunee is welcoming Heikki Lunta back with a festival this weekend.

Opening ceremonies on Friday include a parade for the Finnish snow god beginning at 6 p.m. along Snow Street in Old Town Negaunee. 

Saturday features a Finnish breakfast at the Negaunee Eagles Club, followed by Finnish American heritage displays and lectures at the Negaunee Senior Center and other venues around town.  The UP Luge Club will throw open the only natural track luge course in the U.S. for public enjoyment, and a fireworks display is planned for the west end of Iron Street beginning at 7 p.m.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
