HOUGHTON, MI-- The City of Houghton has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for a new, professional-grade skate park.
If the Patronicity campaign reaches its $50,000 goal by June 9 the project will get a matching grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Public Spaces Community Places program. The park would be built in Houghton East Waterfront Park.
City officials say the Marquette skate park is the only one in the U.P. and a long drive for those who live in the Copper Country. Once completed, the Houghton Park is expected to draw daily users from a 50 mile radius.
