Human remains found at Kincheloe Township residence, suspect arrested

KINCHELOE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Chippewa County man has been arrested on torture and criminal sexual conduct charges after human remains were discovered at a home.

Undersheriff Greg Postma says, after a lengthy investigation, deputies conducted a search warrant Wednesday on Erin Place in Kincheloe Township. Officers were directed to look for human remains and other items of interest. Postma says remains were found and secured for the medical examiner’s analysis.

Deputies arrested Sean McInnes, 45, and charged him with:

  • Torture
  • Assault of a pregnant individual causing stillbirth
  • 1st degree criminal sexual conduct (2 counts)
  • 2nd degree criminal sexual conduct
  • 1st degree child abuse (3 counts)
  • Assault with a dangerous weapon (2 counts)

McInnes is being held at the Chippewa County Jail without bond.
Detectives and deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police Special Investigations Unit Human Remains Analyst and a doctor from the Northern Michigan University Forensic Anthropology Unit.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
