Humboldt crash hospitalizes two

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people are hospitalized following a three-vehicle traffic accident in Humboldt Township.

Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies say it happened Monday just after 10 a.m. at the intersection of US-41 and M-95. William Mattila, 65, of Republic was westbound on US-41 and attempted to turn south onto M-95 when he turned into the path of a vehicle driven by Judith Prisk, 79, of Champion. The collision forced Prisk’s car to roll over several times and strike a vehicle driven by Michael McCann, 71, of Negaunee, who was stopped behind Mattila’s vehicle.

Prisk and Mattila were taken to UPHS-Bell, then transferred to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of severe—but not life-threatening—injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
