Interview: Jon Teichman, August 2019 Ore Dock Vinyl Show

NMU Vinyl Record Club

The beginning of August in Marquette marks the 22nd semi-annual Ore Dock Vinyl Show on the calendar.  Long time collaborators Geoff Walker (coming from the Detroit area) and Jon Teichman (from NMU's Admissions office and Adviser of the NMU Vinyl Record Club) come together to turn the upstairs of the Ore Dock Brewing Company into a pop-up vinyl shop.  It doesn't end there however, as there is more than vinyl records: posters, compact discs, tapes, t-shirts, books and more will also be available for perusal.

Live music is also a component of the show, as musical acts are frequently planned around the time of the vinyl show.  Thursday August 1st (the first day of the vinyl show), Public Radio 90's own Kurt Hauswirth will make an electronic pop and dance appearance,  along with his friend and fellow local collaborator Chad McKinney with his own ambient/experimental productions.  Local lo-fi hip-hop duo Blanco Suave will round out the first night's musical entertainment.  Then, Friday August 2nd and Saturday August 3rd, Cosmic Knot will take the stage for "gypsycore," which includes drums, saxophone, vocals, guitar, bass, keys and possibly more.

Jon Teichman (of the NMU Vinyl Record Club) came to our studios to speak more about the entirety of the show and how it's grown, along with how it brings people together:

The August 2019 Ore Dock Vinyl Show begins Thursday August 1st at 4pm and runs throughout the weekend into Sunday August 4th until close.  More information available at the Facebook event post.

Kurt lives in Marquette with his family and can’t imagine living anywhere else. He loves music, games, running, being near water, and a fine cold brew coffee.
