Iron County crash claims two lives

IRON COUNTY, MI--   Two people are dead, following a rollover accident in Iron County.

Sheriff’s deputies say the crash happened Tuesday around 8:10 p.m. on M-189 south of the Osterlund Road intersection.

A northbound vehicle containing two people apparently left the roadway and overturned.  The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.  The passenger was trapped and had to be extricated.  Deputies say both died of their injuries.

Iron County Central Dispatch had received complaints earlier about the vehicle driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed.  Law enforcement was actively searching for the suspect vehicle when the accident occurred.

The names of the victims are not being released, pending notification of relatives.

The accident remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted by Michigan State Police, Iron County Search and Rescue, Aspirus EMTs, and Iron County Central Dispatch.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
