Iron County officials search for driver of empty boat

Iron County Sheriff

IRON COUNTY, MI--   The Iron County Sheriff’s Department is searching for the driver of a boat that crashed into a dock at Hagerman Lake over the weekend.

Saturday around 3:40 p.m. Iron County Central Dispatch received a call that a driverless boat had slammed into the dock, but no one was around.

Deputies believe a 56-year-old Iowa resident was out fishing and somehow fell into the water prior to the crash.

With assistance from Iron County Search and Rescue and Michigan DNR officers, deputies searched the area, but failed to find anything.  The Delta County Dive Team was requested to assist in the search.

Recovery activity continues at this time.  The identity of the missing boater has not been released.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
