Iron County ORV accident injures Illinois man

BATES TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person is injured, following an ORV accident in Iron County.

The Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened Saturday around 3 p.m. on Trail #16 near Wagner Lake in Bates Township.  Deputies say a 29-year-old Palatine, Illinois, man drove off the marked trail, went into a heavily wooded ravine, and came to rest against a stand of trees.

The driver was taken to North Star Hospital in Iron River with several non-life-threatening injuries.  He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Deputies say driver inexperience was a contributing factor in the crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
