Ishpeming crash injures Marquette man

MARQUETTE, MI--   One person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in Ishpeming Monday morning.

City Police say Thomas Beauchamp, 57, of Marquette was turning onto US-41 from Second Street around 8 a.m. when he was struck by a westbound DNR truck driven by Jason Peterson, 43, of Marquette.  Witnesses say Peterson ran the red light.

Beauchamp had to be extricated from his vehicle.  He was taken to UPHS Marquette, where he remains in serious condition.

Peterson suffered minor injuries.  He was treated and released.  His 24-year-old female passenger was not injured.

Officials say an underlying medical issue with Peterson may have contributed to the accident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
