Isle Royale looking for comment on Cultural Resource management

ISLE ROYALE NATIONAL PARK--  Isle Royale officials are seeking public comment on the park’s draft Cultural Resource Management Plan and Environmental Assessment.

The purpose of the plan is to develop a strategy for managing the non-wilderness cultural resources of the park.

The draft evaluates three alternatives: one that takes no action; one that provides proactive stewardship of cultural resources through partnerships with the National Park Service. They would preserve historic properties that reflect the entire scope of human history at Isle Royale. The third alternative emphasizes research and provides for stabilization and preservation of historic and cultural resources in the park.

The draft planning document is available for public review until September 6. It’s available for download at the park’s planning website, http://parkplanning.nps.gov/ISROcrmp.
