Law enforcement to host Hidden in Plain Sight event for parents

MARQUETTE, MI--   Police and the Marquette County Cares coalition want to teach parents how to spot substance use in their children.

They’re sponsoring a “Hidden in Plain Sight” room in Marquette Wednesday.

Nate Dawson is the Youth Service Officer for the Marquette Police Department. He says the scene will resemble a bedroom where parents can learn ways in which kids hide their using.

“We’re going to hide different items that are associated with alcohol or drug use for parents to come in and take a look at things that their children may be getting involved with,” he says.

Dawson says Michigan State Police and county and city officers will be available to answer any questions parents may have. Law enforcement will also give a presentation on some of the drug and alcohol issues they’re seeing in the community.

Hidden in Plain Sight takes place Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the MARESA building at 321 East Ohio Street in Marquette.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
