Law enforcement tackles deep snow to find missing woman

BIG BAY, MI--   Deep snow hindered troopers’ attempts to find a woman reported missing in Powell Township.

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched Monday around 3 a.m. to County Road 510 on a report of a missing person. A 39-year-old Big Bay woman was trying to access a rural camp when her vehicle became stuck in snow and she didn’t arrive where she was expected.

Snow from the weekend’s storm hampered law enforcement’s attempts to reach the woman. Marquette County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue units were requested and responded to the scene. With appropriate vehicles to navigate deep snow, Search and Rescue found the missing woman and her children. They were taken to their family.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
