Lawmakers offer tribute to western UP conservation officers

Undated - Two Michigan Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers have been awarded special state of Michigan tributes for their vital role in the rescue of 4 snowmobiles in the western UP.  Officers Jenni Hanson  and Zach Painter were honored Saturday by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, 38th District State Senator Ed McBroom, and 110th District State Representative Greg Markkanen.

On the evening of February 9th, under extreme weather conditions consisting of snow and ice in  remote terrain, the officers risked their personnel safety in successfully rescuing four stranded snowmobilers in Ontonagon County.

Painter said the two conservation officers were only part of a multi-agency team involved in the rescue effort. Hanson said conservation officer academy training prepared the officers well for the incident they responded to.

The tributes were issued “with deep appreciation, respect and admiration for all of the hard work, commitment, determination, professionalism and sense of duty exhibited” by the conservation officers.
