Lightning hits Escanaba barn, starts fire

ESCANABA, MI--   A Delta County barn caught fire after it was struck by lightning early Wednesday.

The Escanaba Department of Public Safety was dispatched around 4:45 a.m. to the corner of 18th Road and I Road. Officers found flames coming from the second story of the barn.

Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the second story. They spent two hours on the scene.

No injuries were reported.

The Ford River Fire Department, Michigan State Police and Delta County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
