Logging truck spills load after it crashes on US-41

ELY TOWNSHIP, MI--   No injuries are reported in a single-vehicle crash involving a logging truck Thursday in Ely Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 4:45 p.m. on US-41 West near County road 496. A KRS Trucking semi-tractor trailer driven by Percy Leach of Gwinn was eastbound when he lost control of the truck on the slushy road. The semi crossed the centerline, jackknifed and left the roadway. The entire load of logs spilled onto the road and shoulder.

Leach was uninjured and no other vehicles were involved in the crash. He was cited for defective equipment—bald tires and given a warning for speeding.

It took about four hours to clean up the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
