SAULT STE. MARIE, MI (AP)-- Lake Superior State University officials say overall enrollment is expected to be down for the coming school year but they believe a rebound will follow.
The Evening News reports the Sault Ste. Marie school is preparing for about 2,130 students — roughly 100 fewer than one year ago. The university has seen a drop in applications for new students as well as the number of returning students.
Vice President for Student Affairs Ken Peress says he hopes that efforts to recruit outside Michigan and non-traditional students will pay off. He adds that administrators expect improved results from a program that charges the same tuition to both in-state and out-of-state students.
