Lundin planning to mine Eagle East deposit

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI--   Officials with Eagle Mine have released results of testing done on its Eagle East deposit in Marquette County.

Since July of 2014 more than 35,400 meters of drilling have been completed in 67 holes to define the deposit, which is about 1.5 kilometers east of the current mine at a depth of about 1,100 meters.  Results indicate 1.18 million tonnes measure 5.2 percent nickel and 4.3 percent copper.

Lundin officials intend to complete a full feasibility study and permit review.  If mined, the life of Eagle would be extended by one year.

Access to Eagle East is planned with a spiral ramp from the bottom of Eagle Mine, making use of the existing ventilation infrastructure. Lundin Mining has authorized ramp development to begin in July.

Officials say existing mine infrastructure, including the water treatment plant and Humboldt Mill processing plant, will be sufficient for the mining of Eagle East.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality says no modifications are required to Eagle’s mining permit at this time.
