Man arrested for drinking and driving in Marquette Township

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A downstate man was arrested, following a two-vehicle accident in Marquette Township Wednesday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 9:30 p.m. on US-41 near Wright Street. Deputies were advised one vehicle was on its side.

Officials say a Pontiac Vibe driven by a 21-year-old downstate man was westbound on US-41 when a grey sedan driven by a 20-year-old Gwinn man pulled out of the Cenex parking lot and into its path.

During the investigation deputies suspected the driver of the Vibe to be under the influence. The downstate man was eventually arrested for operating under the influence of intoxicating liquor.

No injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
