Man arrested for macing Iron Mountain motel clerk

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   An Iowa man is in the Dickinson County Jail for attacking a motel clerk in Iron Mountain Friday.

Around 4:25 p.m. the man entered the Comfort Inn, and when the clerk asked the man to wear a mask he sprayed her with mace.

The suspect left the motel and sat in his vehicle in the parking lot. Officers say he had a gun in his hand. He was told to drop the gun and exit the vehicle, but the man left the lot and drove north on US-2.

Officers deployed “spike strips” on the highway during the slow pursuit. The suspect threw the gun—determined to be a BB gun—from the car during the chase.

The vehicle stopped near the area of Riverside Auto and the 41-year-old driver was arrested. He remains lodged pending formal charges from the Dickinson County Prosecutor’s Office.
