HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, MI-- A Humboldt Township man is in custody after he fired a gun in the direction of relatives Sunday morning.
At 9 a.m. State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched to a home on a report the suspect became violent during an argument with family over money. When family began to leave the residence, the suspect exited the house with a shotgun and fired it in the direction of their vehicles.
Troopers learned the man had recently been released from jail. Family also said he suffered from mental illness and had made statements about killing people and taking his own life.
Troopers made contact with the armed man as he tried to leave his residence by boat on a river behind his house. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
The man will be taken to a facility for a mental health evaluation. He faces several counts of felonious assault involving a firearm.
Troopers were assisted on scene by the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team, Officers from the Department of Natural Resources, Ely Township First Responders, UPHS EMS, Marquette County Central Dispatch and Negaunee Regional Dispatch.
