Man dies in AuTrain Township snowmobile crash

AuTRAIN TOWNSHIP, MI--   A downstate man has died in an Alger County snowmobile accident.

Sheriff’s deputies say Wednesday around 9:15 p.m. they received a report that a snowmobile crashed on Trail No. 8 about three miles west of the M-94 intersection in AuTrain Township.

They say Adam Hagerty, 37, of Saginaw failed to negotiate a curve on the trail, lost control of his snowmobile, and hit a tree.  He died at the scene.

Excessive speed and alcohol are considered to be factors in the accident.

Alger County Rescue 21 and Alger County EMS assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
