Man presumed drowned in Breen Township

DICKINSON COUNTY, MI--   Officials are searching for a man who jumped into the east branch of the Sturgeon River in Breen Township Saturday and never resurfaced.

Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post say the 28-year-old man leapt from a pontoon boat at Stromberg Park. Troopers were contacted around 5:15 p.m. and immediately began a search, but it had to be called off due to darkness.

A State Police marine unit led the search Sunday. Troopers were assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, the Delta Dive Team, the Department of Natural Resources, the Norway Fire Department, Nordic Rescue, Beacon Ambulance, and several citizens.
