Man tries to rob fast food restaurant in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI--   A man tried to rob the Hardee’s restaurant in Escanaba Tuesday, but was unsuccessful.

Escanaba Public Safety officers were notified around 11:35 a.m. that a man had given an employee a note indicating it was an armed robbery. The suspect then entered a bathroom and stayed there until authorities arrived.

Units from the Delta County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police Gladstone Post responded to the scene and established a perimeter. Public Safety officers entered the restaurant and talked the suspect into giving himself up.

The man was taken into custody without incident. He’s been identified as a 59-year-old Portage man.

No firearm was located but the note used in the incident was recovered.

Attempted armed robbery charges will be sought through the Delta County Prosecutor’s Office.
